First session!

28th October 2024

A very exciting day, the beginning of our 5 week International module, and we dove straight in! Our destination: Iași, Romania. A country none of us had visited before and we knew very little about – so a lot of work to do!

First step; understanding the module and the purpose of the work we would be creating. What is international performance? As a group we brainstormed some ideas and came to the conclusion that international performance is a form of performance that broadens across cultures, it often discuss themes of social, cultural and political issues and it is a way of communicating without the limitations of language barriers.

This session was a great chance for us to discuss how we felt about the project and air out any questions or concerns we had. We also took some time to consider what was required of us as students representing the Arden, it was important that we approached the project with open minds and we were respectful of the Romanian culture as we experienced it.

We were each handed a small guidebook for our trip to Iași, with all the useful information we needed, and frankly this may have been the most exciting part for, reading ahead about all the things that were planned for our trip. Where we were going to stay, the students we were going to meet, things to expect, Romanian phrases we needed to know – all sorts!
